Jow asked:

I’ve been playing golf for two years, so
I am still pretty new. Don’t get much practice though. I don’t hit very good off the tee, but I hit good with my irons. Putting is my weakness but that can be fixed.. I have questions that you might be able to answer for that little summary above.

1: On my irons, am I supposed to get backspin? Or would I have to play a ball like the Pro V1 to get some (I play the two piece Mojo right now)
2: Should I consider getting a longer iron like a 4 maybe… as of now I just use my hybrid on my par 5 fairway shots.
3: Does anybody else still use wooden tees? I tried those zero friction plastic ones but I don’t like the feel of it..
4: Do other peoples gloves get crisp after using them for a month or two?

Thanks for answering the questions. The most importiant one is the first one..

Golf Tips to Help You Learn the Game Faster

golf tips
Kenneth Gorveski asked:

Golf tips are available online on the major aspects of the game. You can get lot of interesting tips relating to iron game, wood game, fitness, putting, equipment, warm-up and some more interesting golf tips from professional golfers.

A valuable iron game tip is to get the bottom of your swing in front of the ball when you attempt to hit the ball with your irons. This helps to contact the ball before the ground. You can strike the ball with irons much more steadily by following this tip.

Many amateur golf players complain that they cannot hit the ball well with the wood. Problem with most of the players is that the poor quality contact. Golf tips to such players are to put tee in the ground and stick up approximately 1 to 1.5 inches without a ball. You can then strike the tee without hitting. It is worth to practice this until you can strike the tee without touching the ground.

Do not ignore the importance of fitness:

Fitness is more important to win the game. Golf tips help you to stay fit. Strength, flexibility and endurance are the three major components of fitness, out of which flexibility is critical for golf. You can practice yoga to attain flexibility. You can gain mental and physical alertness with the help of a yoga instructor. You can even practice yoga by reading the special books or watching the videos.

Putting tips available online enables you to become a good putter. It is preferable to keep your pressure in your hands constantly throughout the stroke. If your grip changes during the stroke, then you cannot attain the desired results. Your hands should not be moved independently on your arms and shoulders. You can practice by watching your hands carefully.

Golf tips for handling the equipment are especially useful for a beginner player. There are several types of club fitting available like swing weight, grip size, shaft flex, lie angles, club head material and so on. The most important among them are lie angle and shaft flex. Lie angle is the angle between shaft and the sole whereas shaft flex is the stiffness or softness of the shaft. A skilled player can get good score with any of the clubs, as he has the ability to make changes in the club easily to adapt to his performance level. If you have your clubs fit properly, then you are able to play well.

You may not want to do warm-ups before starting to play. However, golf tips provided by professional players insist that warm-up can help to provide optimum performance. You can do some simple warm-ups like raising arms out to side and starting circles with your hands. You can do this in either direction for at least 60 seconds. This can help you to increase blood flow to shoulders. Warm-up lets you to make easy swing on first tee.

Mental relaxation is critical to win the game of golf. You need to focus your attention on positive aspects. Concentrate your mind only on things you want to achieve. Though difficult, you can accomplish it with practice.

Any tips for a beginner regarding golf clubs?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009
golf tips
fundoctor asked:

I used to play golf before, played with a bladed Spalding set, which didn’t turn out well, and never really hit the ball well. Now 10 years later, I find myself wanting to learn the game again.

I’m torn between 3 decisions:

Plan A is to buy a cavity back 7 iron and a wood, and learn from those 2 clubs. Once I re-learn, invest in a good set of used irons.

Plan B is to buy a cheap 2nd hand set, but the 2nd-tiered ones like Dunlop, Spalding, Wilson. Not exactly brand name from what my friend told me, but good enough.

Plan C was what a shop suggested, buy a whole set of clones, learn from them, and when I’m ready, buy the real deal.

Which of these would actually help me re-learn the game? Plan A seems to be a good investment just in case I find out that golf isn’t my game. Plan B sounds like a good idea since after a few weeks, I can use these clubs to “practice” a round too. Plan C sounds nice since I’m playing a full set close to brand names.

What do you guys think?

Golf Tips on Alignment

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
golf tips
Syd Z. Nohcud asked:

It is often said that golf is a hard enough game without handicapping yourself unnecessarily. If you spend most of your golfing time off the fairway or missing greens then you fall into this camp. It can be well emphasized that one of the most important and valued components of the leisure time game and pastime of golf and the sport of golfing is to ensure that you are properly aligned with your target line as you begin your golf shot.

Before you tee off it is most important to have good as well as clear idea of your desired and chosen landing area. Once you picture your shot ahead of time - in your mind’s eye you are more than half way there already. Visualization is everything. Visualization ahead of time helps immensely.

Once you have determined your golfing target, you should then stand directly behind your golf ball, and your target. Next pick a “secondary” target, such as a brown spot, divot or even such a small marker as a distinctly noticeable leaf, which are a few feet away in front of your ball and in addition which are line with your target. It can be said that the reason for doing this procedure of lining up is that overall it is much easier to line up with something which is close by you - that is within a few feet of distance, rather than something much much further away at say 200 or 250 yards distance.

The golfing term that follows next is “addressing the ball”. The classic golfing joke is that to address the ball is to call out “hello ball”. It’s really not like that in the real sport of golf on the links and fairways. When you are addressing the ball it can be said that you are trying to create a railroad track with your ball on what might be seen as the “target track”. Next in line will be your feet, knees, hips and shoulders - along with your eyes that line up in a parallel fashion generally left of this target track. If you wish to visualize this setup in a better fashion, you can lay out your golfing clubs to better illustrate your railroad track setup. Simply place one club on the grass behind the ball basically directly behind your target. Next place the other club down on the grass in front of your feet touching your toes. When your two clubs create a perfectly parallel railroad track, then it can be said and ascertained that you are properly aligned.

Now that you are “perfectly aligned” you will need to make sure that your ball is aligned correctly in your stance. It can be generally said that the ball position for normal shots on flat ground should be best played slightly forward of” center”. In golfing terms this term “center”, refers to the mid point between both of your two feet. This is the position that is usually going to get your club to be square at impact and to guide your ball in the direction of your chosen target. It is most important to understand that this chosen ball position applies to standard level terrain and not for uphill or downhill lies and “trouble” shots.

Now that you are perfectly aligned and your golfing ball is situated in the right direction, you will need to understand that the width of your stance can well vary depending on your club selection. Finally one thing to remember is that the longer the club the wider the stance, but the ball position always stays the same in relation to your front foot.

How To Swing The Golf Club On Plane Correctly

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
golf tips
Golf Swing Genius asked:

Swinging on plane is a big key to hitting solid golf shots.  The first thing that needs to be correct is your setup.  A good setup position with a correct grip, good angles, and proper alignment will all aid you in swinging on plane correctly.

Starting your backswing on plane requires a slow smooth takeaway with the arms and shoulders.  At the point where the golf club is parallel to the ground in the beginning of your backswing, the golf club should cover up your hands if you were looking in a mirror or someone was standing behind you this is what you would see.  If the clubhead is too far in front of your hands, it is too far outside the plane line.  If the clubhead is too far behind your hands, the club will be inside too much.  Both of these incorrect positions will cause problems with keeping the club on the correct swing plane during the rest of your swing.

Halfway into the backswing, your hands should be set in the middle of your chest.  Also, from this halfway back position, if you drew a straight line down from your left elbow (for the right handed golfer), it should point right at the golf ball.  If your left elbow is pointing more towards your feet, your swing plane is too steep.  If your elbow is pointing too far out away from the ball, your swing plane is going to be too laid off or flat.  This is a great drill you can use to make sure you are starting your backswing on plane correctly.

Golf Equipment Tips to Help You Get Better Faster

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
golf driving tips
Kenneth Gorveski asked:

You can find various types of golf equipment at affordable price ranges in the online stores. Golf equipment encompasses golf ball, clubs, shoes, gloves, tees, golf bags, ball markers, ball washers and much more.

Golf balls are available in plenty of types. You can select the balls by performance like spin, straight, long, soft and feel. Golf balls have larger core to provide soft feel, while contributing to longer distance. The multi-layer construction ensures durability, performance and maximum distance. The balls with tour-proven high coverage multi-dimple design assure consistent flight. Balls, which come with Alignment Integrated Marking side stamp ensures improved putting alignment.

Consider customizing your clubs:

Clubs are the most important piece of golf equipment, which come in numerous varieties like irons, fairway woods, drivers, putters, hybrids and wedges. You can even get the complete set containing thirteen or eight clubs. Drivers are specially designed in classic pear shape for better workability and sound. They are ideal for low spin, mid launched drives. Fairway woods are now designed with titanium cup, which is 30% lighter than its predecessor models. This helps to increase your performance. Irons, which incorporate fusion technology, allow weight to be shifted for optimal performance. The oversized club head offers better stability.

Golf shoes are available in assorted varieties for men and women players. Many golfers wear special shoes with spikes to increase traction. Shoes are the most essential kind of golf equipment and you can get popular brand golf shoes in the web. Adidas golf shoes are designed with THiNTech, which helps to reduce your center of gravity. They offer stable and responsive fit. The 3D fit foam sock liner offers you great support and comfort. They grant customized fit so that you can concentrate well on your game. They are made up of hand-finished full grain leather for proving enduring performance. They come with 2-year waterproof warranty.

Golf bags are yet another essential piece of equipment, which are used to transport golf clubs safely. Golf bags are made up of lightweight nylon fabric with waterproof coating. They have waterproof packets and zippers as well. They feature fourteen full-length dividers, which enable you to carry fourteen clubs. The ball liner helps to keep the golf balls. The bags have separate towel holder, penholder and umbrella holder. They have integrated top handle for easy on/off. Stylish women golf bags are also available online, which have matching head covers, umbrella holders and elegant accessory pouch.

Gloves help you to grip the club. Hand position and grip is an essential component while making a golf swing. However, your hand characteristics may interfere with your performance. Gloves, which are scientifically designed, combat the characteristics of hand that interfere with your game. They assure better accuracy in each shot. They grant custom fit for natural movement. They enhance your comfort and reduce hand fatigue.

Some other types of golf equipment like ball washers are used to clean the balls. Ball markers are used to mark the position of the ball, if it is picked up for cleaning. Ball marker is generally a round piece of metal or plastic.

5 Golf Tips On Driving Better Off The Tee

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
golf tips
Golf Swing Genius asked:

#1)  Adjust your setup - Make sure you play the golf ball all the way forward in your stance so that it is directly in line with your left heel.  Your stance should be slightly wider than shoulder width apart.  You want to have a nice solid base which you can turn and coil around.  Also, for the right handed golfer, you want to tilt your spine slightly to the right as this will allow you to swing and hit the golf ball on a slight upswing, launching it high into the air.  This adjustment in your setup will also lead to more distance off the tee.

#2)  Keep Your Lower Body Stable - When you are swinging, the job of the lower body is to act as a base around which your turn and coil your upper body.  This allows you to wind up correctly and will create more power as you swing through the golf ball and release the golf club.

#3)  Keep Your Shoulders Square At Impact - It is a very common swing fault to open your upper body too early in the downswing without giving your arms time to catch up.  Everything needs to come together at impact, so making sure your shoulders stay square through the impact zone will allow you to be more in-sync and hit more solid and consistent golf shots.  Having the shoulders open is even more common with the driver as it is a longer club so you need to allow yourself to be more aware of the timing of your arms and body working together.  It’s a slightly longer swing, so you have to stay down and through your shot at impact just a split second longer than when hitting an iron.

#4)  Make Sure The Hands Lead Ahead Slightly At Impact - You want to build up some lag or leverage in your golf swing because this will allow you to hit it farther and strike the golf ball more consistently.  Make sure that you create some wrist angle or wrist set in your backswing and then maintain that angle in your wrists for as long as possible in the downswing.  This will allow you to come into impact with your hands slightly ahead of the golf ball producing a much more solid golf shot.  It is a common fault to release the golf club too early in the downswing where the clubhead gets to the golf ball before the hands do.  Make sure to focus on creating a good angle with your wrists and hold that angle until the last second right as you are hitting the golf ball.

#5)  Eliminate Excess Body Motion For More Consistency- It’s common with the driver to want to swing extra hard in order to try and hit the ball farther.  One problem with swinging too hard is your body will probably move too much.  Your head should stay relatively still during your golf swing even with your driver.  You do not want too much lateral movement.  If you shift your weight too much to the right on the backswing, you may be getting your weight outside your right foot.  Make sure when you turn in the backswing, you turn so that your weight shifts to the inside of the right foot.  On the downswing and follow through, make sure to stay balanced and behind the ball slightly, instead of feeling like you are moving forward too far.

How to Grip a Golf Club Correctly

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
golf tips
Chris Simpson asked:

For anyone who has ever attended a golf lesson, it is clear that among the first things to be achieved is to learn how to grip a golf club correctly. The ball and the club are the main objects of the entire game, so it goes without saying that any beginner should know how to grip the golf club correctly. For those who’d like to find out more about golf before actually going to some sports centre to attend classes, here are a few tips to learn how to grip a golf club correctly.

First of all, keep in mind that the grip is the only way you connect and feel the golf club. A proper position of the hands on the club brings better control of the club’s face of impact. Therefore, when learning how to grip a golf club correctly, you have to swing your body so that you imprint power to the ball. If you really want to know how to grip a golf club correctly, then make sure that your hand and the club become one in the move. Always use your dominant hand for a stroke, since this is the way to hit with precision.

In order to learn how to grip a golf club correctly, place the last joint of your index finger right under the club’s shaft. Then, keep the club at a clear downward angle. When you place the lead hand on the angle, put the left thumb on the back part of the shaft. Try to imitate the moves of the trainer who shows you how to grip the golf club correctly. For very professional information you may turn to online resources like those provided by Ultimate Golf Tips. They provide great tips and ideas that will assist you in the pleasant effort of learning to play golf.

Not many people who are taught how to grip the golf club correctly actually manage to give the right strokes from the beginning. The keyword here is practice; besides the regular classes you may take, find the time to give some strokes at home too and apply the way you’ve been shown how to grip the golf club correctly. This should be a fist step in the golf learning process as you will soon go on to trying to swing and give the best shots possible. Good luck!
